The line graph illustrates compares the trends of crime rates of three types, namely, burglary, car theft and robbery in Newport inner city between 2003 and 2012.
In 2003, we can see that burglary was the most common crime, with approximately 3,400 reported cases. The figure rose to around 3,700 in 2004, but then showed a downward trend, falling to just over 1,000 incidents 2008. After that, the figure rose slightly to almost 1,500 in 2009, then remained relatively stable till the end of the nine year period.
When it comes to the number of cars stolen, it also declined, dropping from about 2,800 in 2003 to its lowest, at just over 2,000 in 2006. Then there was a gradual increase of car theft with some fluctuation to approximately 2,800 in 2012.
In terms of robbery, it showed the lowest number of incidents throughout the period and there was no significant change to it. It is noticeable that it presented the same figure of approximately 700 in 2003 and 2012.
Overall, it is noticeable that the number of burglaries showed significant changes, while that of theft was the lowest throughout the period.

Along with the rapid development of globalization, an increasing number of people choose to go abroad for further study. I tend to believe studying abroad is beneficial for the majority of them.
Admittedly, attending foreign universities is likely to cause certain problems. For example, due to the cultural shock or language barrier, students may find it difficult to adapt to the totally strange environment. Consequently, they tend to suffer from heavy mental stress, being distracted from academic studies, which is their priority.
Despite this shortcoming, many advantages connected to the decision cannot be denied. First of all, it provides students with an opportunity to broaden their horizons. When they go to foreign countries, they can experience exotic cultures and things that they never met in their motherland. It is generally accepted that global perspective is essential for getting a reasonable job in the globalized era.
In addition, a greater sense of independence is able to be cultivated by studying abroad. Nowadays, many children are spoiled by their parents and grandparents. Luckily, the opportunity enables them to live or work independently, learning to look after themselves, such as booking hotels and developing proper time arrangement.
What is more, students who take advantage of studying abroad can make friends with more people from various backgrounds in other countries, which can promote their interpersonal skills and build their own social network and the confidence needed in their academic research and future careers.
I think that although students may meet more challenges and have to deal with more problems when they go broad, it brings them more benefits, such as wider horizons, independence and sophisticated social skills, making them more competitive in jobs market.
